Horse Racing
Horse Racing is among the popular events where people place a bet or wager in their prediction of the fastest winning horse. There are many types of races that involves the equestrian family. The most popular ones being:
- Thoroughbred Racing: this horse racing event is held all over the globe with thoroughbred horses being the main participants. National groups and entities govern this type of horse racing. In this horse racing, there are two other subdivisions: Flat racing and Jump racing. The latter, jump racing, is again subdivided into steeple chasing and hurdling. These horses compete with other thoroughbreds on the race track to be the fastest in all the events. Thoroughbred is mostly wagered on by players, not to mention the prize of the winning horse itself is also highly regarded.
- Quarter horse Racing: In this racing type for the equestrian, the participating horse must be able to run at fast speed even in short distances using tracks and courses that are straight. Quarter-horse is how it was named as referred to the original length of track which the horse should finish, a mile’s quarter. The standard distance covered in the race is 400 meters or 440 yards, however there are races that cover 100 to 1,000 yards or 91 to 910 meters. In terms of speed, quarter horses are superior than thoroughbreds but only within short distances. In comparison to Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses are more muscular and shorter.
- Harness Horse Racing: This event is popularly played in North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. In this racing event the jockey rides on a cart with two wheels the horse pulls the cart. Speed and strategy are the two main points in this racing event. Two forms are based from this event based on bearing. One is Pacing where the horse runs faster at short breaks. The horse is slowed when starting to gallop. Second is Trotting where the horse moves its legs in diagonal fashion or the right front leg and left hind leg should hit the ground on same instance.
